Looking for Advice for First Timer

OK the moment of truth. Got my new left case in the mail, I have all new seals and gaskets and plenty of time and patience. I am going to pull the motor when I get off in the morning to replace the left case which I retardedly cracked (no saver) a month or so ago. I have a service manual and access to about every tool known to man (my dad is a diesel mechanic). I work on multi-million dollar equipment for a living, so I would hope Im smart enough to do this right and not have too many issues. But now its my money Im spenting not the companys...This will be the first time that I have cracked the case on any engine. I was wondering if there is anything that all you experienced guys recommend or if there is anything I should look out for. Tips and tricks? Special order in which things should be done? All I need to do is replace the left case. Thanks for the help in advance...
