My Honda atc TRICK throttle "secret" :)

OK, it's really not a big deal but try this and maybe you'll like it.

I was buying cheap throttles and painting them and then doing my chit to them and reselling them. Maybe made 10$ a throttle so I don't bother to do it anymore.....

Anyhow, you can do this to your stock throttle paint as it is or wire wheel/sandblast it to bare metal and then paint it with Krylon gloss black or the Rustoleum sunrise red which is a awesome OEM match - Rustoleum just takes longer to dry, Krylon dries in 10 minutes.

Paint it up, let it dry a couple of days - or stuff it in the oven at 170 degrees for a bit. It also seems to help to warm the paint can, I get my tap water nice and hot in the sink and throw the can in there for awhile and it sprays better. Put masking tape all around the throttle top cover leaving only the "HONDA" exposed. Then take a fine cut file and file away the paint from the word HONDA, the paint stays deep inside the "D" and "A" etc etc.

Keep the file nice and flat until the letters have no paint on them and all look to have the same flatness to them. The tape protects the other painted areas from when you screw up filing the paint off of the letters.

Yes this is an easy simple stupid thing, but it looks real nice and I'll bet some of you will try it tomorrow . Lots of people just wouldn't think of it and it's time we all started sharing little things that are cheap and easy to do and make our 20 year old toys look, perform and or run better.

The pictures I'm posting aren't that good, parts are dirty and I should have set the camera for a close up shot, but you get the general idea anyhow.

I like to use the stainless steel 4MM button head allens to finish off the look.

Cmon guys, I showed ya how to recover a seat cheap and make a throttle pretty. It's your turn to - SHARE YOUR SECRETS!!!!!!!!!

    Looks nice! Here's my trick.

    1) take parts to powdercoater.
    2) give powdercoater money
    3) pick up parts two weeks later and install.

I think thats a great idea. Gives it a little more flare and very simple to achieve.

I'm gonna do both my trikes this weekend.

    Thanks.

That looks great DC, nice little details like that begin to add up and can really add to the overall look of the machine.

The hot water - heat the paint can trick for better spray pressure works well.

I have found the perfect source to heat my cans, they fit perfect.

So anyone that has oil heat should have close to the same set up too most likely.

........and NO, I never KABLUIED a can yet

"Rustoleum sunrise red which is a awesome OEM match " For which years have you tried? I'm about to repaint the tank on a 1982 200e and am trying to get the color close. How does it hold up though?

I'm not a big fan of spray bombing a gas tank. You would have to try the Rustoleum and see how it works for you. Not sure if it would hold up.

I always use auto paint with a hardner for parts I want to last, like tanks and frames.

Sunrise red matches 85/86 250R frames perfect. I don't know about the other models and years. Grab a can and check it out...
