    Thumbs up honda 185s

wassup,i have a 1985 Honda 200x three wheeler with a 185s motor on it that i just recently picked up but know nothing about.when i got it,the gastank was full of rust and the fuel petcock was totally clogged and broke.so i put a new one on and pulled the rope.it took about 10 pulls then i squirted some eather in it and started right up. now it starts on the second or third pull without either, the only problem is that with the choke on it revs a little high, then when i take the choke off it revs at full throttle.also the decompression cable was missing so i got a new one but i cant figure out how it hooks up in the starter area.when i pull the decompression valve towards the rear of the bike the throttle quiets down a little bit.does anyone know how to hook up this decompression valve with pics prefferably,i got the clymer book but it dont have a pic and is not too helpfull in this area.do you think its this decompressin cable thats screwing this bike up .maybe a gasket gone bad on the carb, help me please ide like to be wheelieing by the weekend. thank you

Sounds like you have an air leak somewhere ahead of carb. Could be a carb intake boot, base gasket, head gasket?

With it running and idling high, spray some D-40 or something all arond those areas, if the idle suddenly drops down you know that is where the leak is. It will of course stay low until that area drys up and climb right back up.

Idling high simply means it's running lean and that's no good at all.

Most likely it runs better with the choke partcially on ?

If your tank is that rusted, most likely it needs a Kreem or Red Kote job and the carb should be taken apart and cleaned out real good also.

I used to have a link with pic's on doing the whole pull start/decompress cable but not sure if I have it any more.

It is. It makes it easier to pull start. Best bet would be to take care of that rust that's in the tank and carb. I'm going through the same deal with my 185s. these are the 2 diffrent tanks I have at the moment.

A shame Honda's were not coated at the factories like Harleys and BMW's are!

Or maybe it's Harleys & Triumps, I forget now?

that has to be the funniest name i seen on hear yet. Oh by the way

i have a auto x also thay are fun trikes. it's what honda should have made instead of a 200s.

the comporession cable attaches to a plastic ring that attaches to the inside of the pull rope assembly. it's yellowish and sits flush with the housing. i have one for sale on ebay rite now look under user name "toyota_parts_dude" it ends tonite

it was a cable from 83-86 only. the older ones had just a lever like the engine thats in the 185s i sold to chris200x
