i have a ytm 200n and it is not running right. it bogs down and there is gas in the oil. i have cleaned the carb and changed the oil, and after a little bit i could smell gas in the oil pretty bad. i am not sure what it is. maybe i thought it could be piston rings but i am not sure. if anybody could help out with some advise that would be cool. thanks

you might try a compression check and see what u got it could be weak rings letting fuel pass by into the oil

Id say rings also, thats the passageway gas can get from the cylinder to the crank case, except valve seals, and that usually works the other way around (oil burns in the cylinder). As stated, do a compression test, should be between 140-170 or somewhere in that range.

That's my vote too. A bad design on Yamaha's part, the crank case breather tube is hooked into the bottom of the air tube. If your float sticks open gas dumps into the breather and then into the case. I have had this happen a few times. Pull apart the carb. again and make sure no gunk got in there, also clean out the tank and add a fuel filter. Adjust the float height and maybe replace the needle valve.Originally Posted by bryan raffa

i also forgot that i took out my spark plug and it defintly was gunky and had visible oil on it. would a slightly bent needle in my carb affect the float sticking? i really can't get power out of it too, it doesn't really move because of the bogging, but sometimes it will just take off for a minute then bog down bad

Does fuel seep out of the carb vent hoses with the fuel petcock in the on position? Most likely cause is the float bowl needle and seat assembly. Remove the carb so you can work with the float bowl facing up (carb inverted). Remove the float bowl, and carefully remove the float, & the float valve. Check to see if fuel is inside of the float, this can cause the float to sink rather than float like it should. This can cause the float bowl to overfill and create the symtom you have (gas in the crankcase). If you can feel fuel sloshing around inside of the float, replace the float. Inspect the taper on the valve (a magnifying glass may help) it is not uncommon for the taper to have a cirular groove worn into it, making it impossible to stop fuel flow into the float bowl. If this is the case you need to replace the float valve "assembly" (the valve & the seat) If the float is OK, and if you haven't tried to change the float level already you probably wont need to adjust it, but may want to check it while it is apart. TIP: when parking the bike between rides or storing, turn off the fuel valve with the engine running and let it run for a minute or two, then turn off the engine. This will let the fuel level in the float bowl drop and the float valve will hang down reducing the wear and tear on the float valve taper. Also you need to change the oil in your machine to get that diluted oil out of the crankcase. Hope this helps.....Tech23

If your float is set too high, it will flood the carb and some fuel will go into the oil.
