That stuff you use in the bathrooms and such? What can I do to prevent the rust from coming back?

Keep WD 40 on it after,or wax it.Yhis is the easy way.

If I were to do it my way I would sandblast the area and the use a pumice stone on an bench grinder to smooth it on an make it shinny again.

As long as it's not pitted on the part that travels into the lower tubes, it's purely a cosmetic issue. Deal with it however you want. Paint it, wrap some yellow tape around it, whatever.

I've got the same problem on my Z and 200x just not as bad. Not sure how I'm going to address it yet either but I ain't paying to have them re-chromed.

I was thinking the same thing. this is the area inbetween the triples. Will paint hold up well? the front of it was the worse part. noone will be able to really see most of it because of the number plate.

    Anyone one some creative Ideas?

Edog, I'll give that clr a shot.

CLR might get the rust off but if it's pitted, there's no way to really fix that short of refinishing the surface.

If you paint it you'll have to make sure the lower triple is loose enough that you can get the fork through without scratching it up. Maybe the Mosh's can whip you up some fabric covers for that area that have a velcro seal? That might look good as long as they fit tight.
