    KX500 in ATC250R/Tri-Z

What would it take to get the KX 500 motor in a Z or 85 R?

Weighing my options before I buy a 86 Tecate.

I liked your idea of the kx 500 in the 86 Tecate frame the most. I am starting to like the green machines. Guy here in Town has two 200cc ??? Kawi trikes that are clutch driven. Are they any good? If you are interested in them I'll pm you info to contact him. By the way I got them rims for $60 each . I am not sure of the offset. Didnt want to mention prices on the other board.

I'd like to stuff it in an R chassis for the aftermarket and used parts available for it. Its looking more and more like I'm selling the 85 and building a KX500 dirtbike.

shame to see you let the 85 go james. whats the deal with the 86 roller you were looking at?

Its not going anywhere, I'll fill you in if I pass on it. Haven't called him to get a final price but I figure $400 for the chassis minus plastics and some other pieces. Then another $300 at least for wheels/tires and then more for plastics and the little things. It would easily eat up all my budget whereas a dirtbike wouldn't cost near so much or be as hard to find parts for in the long run.

Wish I had the money to keep the 85 and build the dirtbike too.

I often see beat up 86 Tecates on eaby and as you should know, kx500 donks basically bolt into those frames. I would spend a few dollars on getting an aftermarket swing arm for it that will fit a honda axle so parts won't be a problem

There are reasons for that... not many people want to ride them. The 500 trike would be so much cooler..IMO..You could always pick up another cheap 500 bike to ride. What happened to putting the KX500 in your '85 Tecate? Didn't you already cut up the frame? If you dont complete the custom engine cradle...How am I supposed to copy it? lol

Well I still have my 84 frame with the cuts made. I may go ahead and put the KX cradle in it and sell it to anyone wanting to do the swap...OR keep it. lol

    I'm buying the dirtbike. An 88 with KX250 USD's.

i have a 85 atc250r frame modified for a kx500 and a custom sectional pipe made to fit it. it is a sweet set up. if you are interested let me know. i ahve been planning this for a while. with a white frame and green plastic most would never know it was a 250r frame.

Cool! Though I've invested in another machine and my project money is going to be spent on a dirtbike.

Post some pics of that frame/pipe combo? Price?
