85 350x motor ?
Here the prob. Motor has a bad tick. Adjusted valves to .003" TDC, changed oil and filter (used Spectro 20w40). I didnt want to go to thick its still 30-40 degrees outside.
I was told to adjust to try and adjust the cam chain tensioner. But would that cause a tick? What els would? Its not a raddle or a grating sound just a tick.
Camchain tensioner--Pulled bolt out and tried to turn with a screwdriver but wouldnt budge, is it reverse threaded? Felt like it would turn the other way, as if I were tightening a regular bolt. Where is this in the manual.
Any help is appreciated

OH yah, tightened exhaust up also. And spark plug is blackened. Could it be piston problems? Hope not!

The tick is probably valves. If adjusting them does not work, a completey rebuilt head would clear it up. That includes new valve guides+valves+valve springs+valve guide seals. The cam chain is adjusted with the engine cold. Take out the middle bolt on the adjuster area and stick a small flathead screw driver in. Turn it clockwise until it comes back at least 3 or 4 turns in till it stops. Then pull the screw driver out quickly and let it release back towrds the tensioner guide. Thats it. Good luck.
I edited this post because I said to turn the adjuster the wrong way!
I am a noob, you turn the adjuster CLOCKWISE. I Pulled one out of my desk just to make sure. Sorry for the mistake and good luck Gunnar.
