Overhaulin 3WW style: 350x pics *UPDATED* It almost looks complete

***Scroll down through the post to my most recent and you can see the progress over the past 2 days***

I guess its not much but i'm moving my 86 350x to an 85 frame that was powder coated (only got one chip from installing the motor) it will be mostly stock aside from aftermarket exhaust with an extended swinger, lonestar adj. axle, billet carrier, and a few small goodies including a 400ex carb, Here's the progress so far. I hope to have it fired up again this weekend, w/out swinger and rear end...

Yeah she reluctantly let me keep it inside, i'm gonna try to get the wiring and triple tree installed this evening. If you think working on it inside is bad, take a few minutes to realize i live on the 2nd floor of a condo and had to drag it up the steps (w/out rear wheels) and manuver it through the living room onto the deck for the sig pic. Man i miss my garage, and cars at home. Oh well i'll have a decent X at the end of it all...

    Pics from today

Well i tore everything i needed off the old frame last night and after about 3 or 4 hours today i had it fired as seen in the pics. It started after 4 kicks. I had the 400ex carb in place but it's huge compared to my stock one i'm gonna try to find some 400ex air tubes. I fired it with the stock carb for the 350x, it has a cobra header, i just need to tighten everything and wait for my swinger to come back. The tank was on it but i took it back off, in the morning i plan to move it back into the corner, install the skid plate and store it up on a tire under the cover until i have everything ready to do the rear end.

A few things that are little details i have yet to get are

    black fork boots
    a seat to recover black
possibly polish the forks and triple tree
pick up a couple rubber grommets
clean up the oxidation on the bars

and some other finnishing touches that aren't too major...

I feel for ya.... Before I could afford a building, I kept the 85 250SX in the basement down about 6 stairs. Had to remove the tires every time I wanted to ride it. For me I didn't even want to go riding because it was so much work just to get it out of the cellar. I even needed help getting it down there with someone holding the front end so it didn't go flying. One time I lost my grip and the SX ran over my Ex wife , she wasn't too happy about it. But , if she wasn't such a materialistic beeyatch in the first place we could have afforded a nice garage for me instead of her 2nd new car in 2 years. It's all good, she's gone now

Nice job on the X !

Thanks for the kind words guys, i bought the bike for 1200.00 and it needed a couple small pieces and after getting a quote of 165.00 (if i prep it) for powder coating i came upon a frame that was already done on ebay (158.00 shipped) and never assembled, it just snow balled from there. I have wheel spacers but i found an adj lonestar axle for reasonable money, the rear end needed bearings and i decided to sell my carrier and buy a billet one etc. All in all if i can sell the 86 frame, swinger, rear end pieces, and the extra odds and ends i have i should be pretty close to my budget. Not counting my time the goal for cost to buy the parts/bike and build it is 1500.00. I think i would have made it w/out the expensive axle and carrier but we'll see once i ebay all my left over pieces. Shipping was also a killer for the stuff i did buy...

Well here's what it looks like today, everything is on and ready to roll. I got a complete air cleaner setup off ebay and it came with a K&N so i cleaned that up with the recharge kit this morning and simply washed the air tubes and such. I mocked it up with one black tank shroud i plan to find a seat core to recover black and run a black seat, tank shroud, and fork boots. The rest of the parts on the bike were already gone over slightly or will be. I plan to remove and paint the oil cooler guard, take care of the bars oxidation, new grips, and some other little things mentioned above. The headlight is currently being sanded a little but i have really nice lenses and hopefully the plastic will be just as nice when i'm done. I realized the upper mount for the front sprocket guard is messed up so i need to work on that also. As far as assembly it just needs the foot pegs, and rear brake assy installed, and the swinger is getting extended so once it comes back i have the rest of the pieces in hand to make it complete. I can't wait to see what it looks it. I'm very happy with the result so far it just needs a little more work...
