    Making a 4 stroke R

Well after a weekend of pure abuse on my wifes SX, buy trying to follow my Father in-laws new Polaris SportsMan500EFI through some of the worst the Nevada mountains have to offer, I have decided that I need to take my running 185S and transplant its motor into my Roller R frame... now the questions start....
How do I go about making it fit, and how do I measure for a chain?

BTW, In case you were wondinger why I am going to do this.... ITS SIMPLE, the suspension on my SX just isn't enough for what I went through this weekend. picks to come really soon

Why not just upgrade the suspension on the 250sx? Put a 200x front end or I think the 83-84 R front ends fit. A works dual rate rear shock. Should make a very nice improvement.

The 185S more than likely will not have the kind of power you want in terrain like that.. especially with a much larger frame attached to it. Your best bet is to buy a 350X, or upgrade your rear suspension to a works shock and put progressive springs or a 200X front end up front.

I hear what your both saying,... I really do, but this is what I have come up with as a solution. I am not looking for speed, and as far as the weight , the R frame weighs less.... I just want something that soaks up some bumps and gets me down the road. and I really want to keep my wifes bike as is... its clean, and unmolested. (JUST HOW SHE LIKES IT.... need I say more)

heres what I am working with... neighter are going to win a beauty contest, but I have a set of OEM plastics from my R, and all I will need to complete my FRANKENCRAWLER is a seat which is easyenough to come by

you could buy a 200x they are cheap with great suspension and you could sell the roller R to put money in the 200x. by the way what year R are we talkin bout?

Yeah that is a good question.. because I figured he meant an '85/'86 R and they have to weigh more than the little 185S frame. But if its an '81/'82 frame then I can see the whole 185 engine in the R frame thing working.

EDIT: Well nevermind.. I just saw the pics and it appears to be an '85 frame.

It is.. looks like a 2 inch extension.
But it may be an '83/'84 frame.. they were very close to the '85 frame.. fill us in!

You have to think though.. how much of that weight is the engine? Frame? Tires/wheels? The weight of the frame is what concerns me.. I just can't see the R frame being the same weight as the S frame..

PLEASE do not waste a good 250R frame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's like dropping a 4 cylinder in a 1970 chevelle SS for christ sake!!!! WHY?????

buy a 350x/200x or the best and most cost effective thing to do would be to upgrade the 185's suspension with 83/4 250R forks.......

no, they are the after market kit that you could by for them in the late 80's, and I think Ratvespa wants them.

Vegas, I think it is a cool project and I am looking forward to seeing it done. I understand what you are going for and it sounds like a great reason to undertake such a project. Good luck with it.
