    Got my motorcycle!!! '77 Honda XL175

    Yeah Ive been wanting a motorcycle (smaller <200cc, street legal) for quite some time now, and I pulled this old 1977 XL175 home today. It was my dads given to him from some old family friends. This thing has been sitting (and hasnt run) since 1985!!! This was sitting for the entire life of a 3 wheeler!!! The people who gave it to my dad had tried to get it going and rebuilt it in a shop class but never got it to spark. I got it saturday and thanks to my and 82'185s excellent wrenching skills I got it to start by the end of the day. Supposedly everyone thought it was the stator, but all it was was a rusty set of points. Its mostly complete, missing a few small things (what isnt) but its a very nice old bike that has a lot of potential. And the tank is brand new clean inside.

    The only catch though is that I have to pay for the parts on my dads DT400 enduro, which is only gonna be 300-400$.

    Yeah Ive been trying to get it for a while now. My uncle is gonna be making the seat cover, the pan still looks like theres a lot left. Ive already got a full set of turn signals coming. I got the carb cleaned and the side clutch cover siliconed yesterday, so when I get home Im gonna put oil in it and fire it up and see how well it runs now. I cant wait to ride it!!!!

    Well I put the oil and whatever else back in and after a shot of starting fluid itll start and run on its own now. I took it for a 10 min ride down the road and all I can say is HOLY **** this thing is sweeeeeett!!!!! It has no clutch for the moment because the sprocket cover is not there to hold the cable in, but ive found one 20$ shipped. Itll take me a while to get used to the motorcycle style shift pattern though. That semi-auto 5 down's really got me hooked! And neutral is sooo hard to find. Is this normal or is there possibly something bent or ???

    Now that Ive ridden it I cant wait till summer and its finshed!!!

    Same thing with my XR 200R- Neutral can be difficult to find. Not uncommon at all.

    Ok thats good to know. Im not really used to the clutch, although I know how to use one, most of my 'clutch' time has been on a dirtbike where theres really no need to go to neutral. When your riding it, can you hold in the clutch and use the brake to stop, and still keep it in gear?

    Anyway, more All of our Alaska snow is melting finally!!

    Yeah I always just down shift to first and hold the clutch on my xs750 at traffic lights. You will get a feel for finding neutral though it just takes a bit and every bike feels different to find it. SWEET bike though congrats

    my raptor has that same shift pattern and it was hard at at first to find neutral as well, you just have to lean the whole "1/2 step" thing. Im sure youll pick it up in no time, looks sweet!

    Yeah it was weird at first, because on my YZ80, neutral is as easy to find as any other gear. I guess I just gotta ride it for a while. I ordered the gaskets that I need a few days ago, so they should be in here soon. I also got a rear rack off a XR100. I still need turn signals, which is the main thing to get it street legal. And an exhaust system. This thing's so loud it will drown anything out. My sprocket cover also came in the other day, so now the clutch cable will stay in lol. I talked to the guy who used to ride it when he was a kid, and when it was rebuilt in shop class it got a new piston and rings installed.

    This thing hasnt been run since 1985, which is the life of a 3 wheeler. I bring this up because I see new motors from trikes ~1985, and they need the clutch plates replaced from sitting for that long. This bike always had oil in it, but it had 3000 miles when parked plus it sat for that long, should I replace the clutch plates? It seems to slip when its in 1st or 2nd, but once it gets going itll catch ok. It also seems to do better if it had been driven for a few minutes.

    i would say replace them casue if u want it street legal u dont want anything happening to *Edited**Edited* clutch, i would so u dont have to replace them down the rode.
