from a cold to a fever my 83 200X

guys, ive only made one post before so im new and i didnt introduce myself before i posted, for that i apologize. i was just happy to find this site to ask a question i forgot my manors. with that said, 8 months ago i had no trikes, now i have 3. i got the fever!!! my latest is a 83 200X. it runs prety good, a little smoke when you first start it. id like to get the top end rebuilt. nothn hopped up, i just want a mechanicely sound engine. i have a question on the trany. when im in 3rd gear it likes to jump in and out of gear. it doesnt sound like its grinding, its like the clutch is being pulled in and out. it only happens in 3rd gear. i dont know where to start looking? i split the case on my 110 so i know how to do that. hopefully i wont have to do that. any help would be great. thanks
