what would it take....kx500 in 86t3?

what would it take to put a kx 500 motor in a stock 86 t3 frame? i have the 86 in the reassembly stages, and now i am starting to think about what i wanna do about the powerplant. i could easily go with the 86 t3 motor, but i was kinda thinking i wanted to maybe try this kx 500 mod thing. what do i need exactly to do this conversion? any and all info welcome and wanted. bgm, jump in here man, i know you have had this thought running thru your head for a while.

hey you asked-lol love the tecates but i hate the white-is that just the primer color??
it would be sweet with a jade green- or candy green colored frame- a lil metalflake in it---- yea yea
i think house of kolor has a (pagan gold)-i think its really a green color though --
might be worth looking into before you get too far-------

well jason your the first one to say you dont like the white frame. that is its color, white. looks great when all done. my 85 is the same color scheme and i have nothing but rave reviews over it. and yeah i think i am a pretty good mechanic as well jason, been riding well over 20 yrs, and wrenching on everything from bikes to cars and in between since i was knee high to a grasshopper, so yeah i think i know my business when it comes to mechanics.

Scoot, your trike looks great. Love the white. I wouldn't change a thing with the color. As far as the engine, the 500 sounds kind of mean. If you do that I recommend a swingarm extend.

The kx500 is a pretty easy swap into a kxt. all you need 2 fabricate is the top motor mount and mod the kx500 pipe. You can't run the airbox. Everything else is a bolt in, sprockets line up. run the 500s electronics and you are done.
    GOOD LUCK

I don't see why the airbox couldn't be used? Just run the Tecate carb boot on the KX. It fits, trust me. lol

All new motor mounts (removeable stock style, only the top mounts?) need to be made and the tube above the sparkplug needs a notch/weld in it to clear the plug/cap. The pipe will fit but needs new mounts and some rework on the end of it.

Seems to be all straightforward stuff IMO and definately worth it.

90-up are all the same. The earlier 89 and previous are all a little different in the powervalve design therefore topend parts will not interchange with the 90-up.

Best upgrades for these motors are vforce cage and reed spacer which give an increase in power and smooth out the hit.

Thumbs up I think it's gonna look SWEET!

I like it . This is giving me an idea on what to to with my 84 big red. No powerplant in it, but I could start cleaning it up for a refreshing paint job for the future. Can't wait to see it all together. 500cc! I'm glad your riding it and not me. My wife cut my balls off 5 years ago.

All kinds of pipes out there for the 500. DOMA being one of the best. Pipe mounts and the end of it are the only things needing mods. Pipe fits very nice from what I've seen.

Some guys on KXRIDERS were telling me 125mph with the KX bike geared 15/38. On the lake passing sleds, not just 450's. There are bigbore kits for them as well...but then everyone would think you've got a small dick.

Expect to pay for the 500 motor in good nick, they are a hot commodity.
