Big red alternator question

Ok I have my 1983 Big red which is getting a winch this summer. I was worried about the alternator not being able to support it, because it only puts out 2 amps. The 1985 Big red puts out 15 amps, can I use a 1985 big red stator in my 83 big red?

Or does anyone have a pic of the 85 stator assy. so I could compare?

No the stator from a 250 will not fit in a 200. I have never looked ,but you may find an aftermarket stator that will push a little more juice.

how would you go about putting a winch on a trike anyways? unless your putting it in the back of the bike, if you figure out how to install a winch and a new alternator, please let me know because i would like to do the same to my 84 bigred

The winch I have is a Champion Power Equiptment 2000lb winch, its less than 100$, I think the one I got was 70$ even. Im gonna mount it on the front rack by taking a piece of plate steel and drilling holes so it can mount on the tabs on the front rack. Then I will mount the winch as much under the headlight as possible. (Greater turning control and less strain on the front end.) I might also mount a roller guide on the front of the plate steel if it looks like the cable might rub on something on the front. I have an idea how to fabricate a mount, ill post a pic of what the whole mouning assembly will look like when its done.

Since this particular winch doesnt have a rocker switch, it has one of those ugly, bulky yellow handles, Im going to get a Warn rocker switch kit. (~99$ - includes switch and soleniod, everything you need) I will mount the soleniod right by the winch, because its less likely to get wet up there, and also theres not really anywhere else to put it. Then it will run straight to the battery from the soleniod.

Like I said the only thing I am worried about about is the altenator being able to support the winch. I dont have any extra lights or accessories, so I dont think it will be too much of a problem if I keep it running, but Id rather have a bigger alternator just to be safe. All the alternator needs to do is mount up like the 83 big red alternator, I can do all the wiring for it.

Maybe an 84 Red alternator would fit? The engines a little bit closer to the 83 Red style. Even if thats all I could do, 5 amps is more than double the 2 amps mine puts out.

Now that I think about it, is there any alternator off a newer quad that might bolt up? Even if I gotta enlarge the screw holes in it a little, as long as it doesnt rub on the flywheel it should be ok?

I looked it up on rideMSC, the TRX200SX wont fit. I also looked at the 1985 Big Red one and, yeah, it didnt come close either.

But it looks like a 1984 Big Red stator will fit. A 1984 TRX200 stator looks like it might bolt up too. Anyone know the amp output of an 84 TRX200?

I thought about rewinding it, but I have no idea how to do it without messing it up or how much to do before its good.
