Sorry to hijack, but I'm looking for a widened axle for a 185s. It has been mentioned in this thread that aftermarket axles are/were available. Who makes them? Or has anyone tried cutting the axle and welding in an extension piece. Then putting the axle in a lathe and turning the axle down to the stock taper?

I've got a project I'm building using a 185s motor and axle. I built my own swing arm for it. I cut the rear pick up points off the frame and used them for the swing arm. I haven't mounted the shock yet.....

Been years since I've seen an extended swingarm. I have an axle on a rd350 suspension frame which is actually a hollow axle. It was supposed to be even heavier duty than a solid axle. Don't know if it is or not. Be careful welding pieces into those axles, they are hardened and heat treated and any welding could cause a drastic reduction in reliability and be downright dangerous.
