    powder coating removal?

    how do i remove powder coating from my250r fram and swinger? ive tried blasting and all it did was dull it. will an acid dip work? anyone know? any places around NW ohio that acid dip. need to know like yesterday so please if you know anything or have a suguestion please dont hesitate to post. thanks in advanced!!!

    If it is a small area you can use a torch and burn it off. I have had frames that were powdercoated that needed to be welded, the fastest way was to burn the powder off, then weld it up. Maybe that will help.

    Not real sure if it will work on powdercoat, but you could try Aircraft Stripper.
    It takes almost anything off of metal. You can get it at Walmart, or any parts or hardware store.

    That's what I used to remove the powder from the steering stem on my 70. That and a razor blade.

    Aircraft Stripper is awesome as hell. i use it for everything and seems to work. i did learn not to let it sit on fiber glass for a long time lol. as said above it take almost anything off metal.

    good luck man
    down to parts because i no longer have a place to ride trikes.

    Just curious but why are you REMOVING the powder coating? Going for the polished look?

    If your getting it powdercoated again the guy will most likely beadblast the parts first. just a thought.

    I know the guy that does my beadblasting hates powdercoating. He says it just turns gummy and won't come off. He uses Aircraft stripper too.

    Have any of you guys ever tried stripping a frame by hand? I did and let me just say... it blows! I say pay someone to do it!

    I'm not sure if the frame is powder or epoxy from the factory.. but the stripper (Jasco gel stripper) I picked up from Lowe's worked right quick.. it's just there's too many nooks and crannies to get into so it's a real PITA.

    The guy that just powdered this frame said he blasted it first. so that's what I based my statement on.

    I'm with Chris, I stripped part of my '82 250R frame by hand, and he's right it does suck. It went to the blasters the next day.

    we use a chemical stripper to remove powder coat , its tough stuff the beadblaster wont even touch it , will need to be bead blasted after to clean it up before powder coating

    I took my frame to a blaster and he had no problem with it. The frame came out perfect it had a smooth finish

    How much are you guys being charged for blasting? I'm going to strip my ATC 185 to the frame and redo it ground up. I'm just curious as to the costs invovled.

    also anyone know where to get the exact correct honda red they used on the 83 185s atc? or the coloring at least?
