$60 is actualy a pretty good deal. you dont know what it takes to bore a cylinder. first they got to set up the machine for your certain cylinder as in stand and bracket ect... then they only take off a fractiopn of an inch at a time. so $60 is actually a good deal.

wow to me that seems really high...i got my 82 R cyl bored for 45 at the same place that wants 60 for the 125 cyl
you also have to think about how many of what sized cylinders he is doin and how long it takes. say he has 5 cylinders he has to do that are around the same size bore he does not have to change the bore head on the machine so its faster and alot cheaper as if he only has your small 125 cylinder mixed in with 5 250 cylinders he will have to hault everything to chnage the parts on the machine just to do your one cylinder in turn loosing time and costing more.

$100 is high in my book.
The local dealer here charges about $45 to bore.
I had the same shop bore an '85R cylinder for me back in '86 for about $28, so that's not too much inflation I guess.

boring bars have size limitations. He might have been able to do the R because it was on a machine he had. The 125 is smaller and he might have to send it out. For the work involved in doing a cylinder (especially a smaller one where its a biatch to get in and chamfer the ports) anything less then $75 is a good deal.
another question...the cyl isnt that bad theres on little scrape below the exhast port not to bad or anything ...you think id be safe with a hone?
Same place I mentioned bored my 12 year old's RM 80 cylinder last year for $48....just found the receipt.

I pay $40-60 around here for a single... My local guy charged me $100 to bore a banshee, and mill the head .025...

Bore jobs vary greatly, and the quality of the bore job will affect how long your top end lasts and performs more than anything else. When youre going to stick a new $100 piston kit into something, its best to stick with the most reputable boring facility instaed of looking for the bargain job that might "save" you $10 and cause the premature death of your new piston kit.

In some cases such as the shop I've used, Tim, the lower price job can be the shop that's turned out good quality work for over 20 years.
Just as a cheap bore job isn't necessarily trash, an expensive bore job isn't necessarily the best one either.
I'd go with the best reputation you can afford like Tim is saying.

I payed 45 for a bore from my old guy, but now pay 55 to have it back in 6 days..well worth the 10 to me..
