    question about my trikes

i have a few questions for 185s and 200x owners (or people that know them)

question 1: my 85 200x has 2 foot peg mounting bolts that have broken off and are stuck in the frame. (no i didnt do it) whats the best way to deal with this in getting them out?

question 2: will a 85 200x wire harness work on a 82 185s? my 185s frame has no electronics but a motor and my 200x frame has electronics but no motor. i am just wondering what i can swap over to get it to work.

yep, center punch the bolts, drill a hole down through the center (preferably with a left hand drill bit), and then tap an easy out in their and twist it out. Before you do this, soak the bolts down with some good penetrating oil such as PB Blaster.
As for the second one, i dont know for sure, but id think their fairly similar. The coils should be the same, the cdi should also work. some of the wiring connections on the harness may be different but i think you could make this work. However im not 100% sure, wait for someone else to chime in before you go hacking stuff up.

are these easy out bolt kits expensive? if they are i really dont see myself using it much can a machine shop do the same thing i would guess so but i dont know anything.

i was start working on anything anytime soon, ive just bee looking over parts to find damage and ask how to fix or get it fixed/replaced.

    thanks

I first try reverse drill bit. Center punch stud then straight and carefully drill into stud. Start small then work your way up. Sometimes the drill will catch and back the stud right out. (very rare) Then once that doesn't you're ready to try easyout or stud extracter. I prefer stud extracter to easyout. If that doesn't work then drill the rest of the bolts out just under the size of the threads in the frame. Here is where you find out how srtaight you are. Now you might be able to use a small pick to dig at the left over threads and then re-tap. Really need the proper tools and it is expensive to get it all, that's why there are mechanics out there. Go pay one of them to do it.

With and a sharp punch you can also sometimes spin the stud out cutting into the edge of bolt then hitting at angle. I wouldn't recomend going at it too much this way. And if you mess up drilling by either going too far off center or worse breaking off drill or tap then your really in for it.

I don't know for sure but I strongly suspect that the wiring harneses are not interchangeable.

the 2 bolts looks really rusted, not sure how the heads snapped off, maybe someone was riding with a loose foot peg and it weekend the heads to spin off? ill check the frame out more tonight to see if i can see any more damage. we got a machinest here at work i am good friends with so maybe i can have him look at it over lunch one day this week. i know he does alot of rework on aluminum chassies we get made with helical insters that strip out and have screws busted off in them.

i dont wanna screw up my drill set, my dad just got it fo me and i think they are wood bits anyway.

the wire harness wont fit the 185 because the plug that plugs into the engine, palse generator, and cdi box are different. the 185 wire harness is simple to make up. i have a wiring diagram if you want me to scan it let me know.
down to parts because i no longer have a place to ride trikes.

you could use the 200x wire harness but mod it to fit the connections on the 185. it is doable. just make sure the connections are all done up good.

Hey aaron, The wiring harness for the 185, not 185s like I've tried to explain to you I don't know how many times should be in the box with the plastic fuel tank. I don't know what kind of electronics you think you are missing, but the one part of the ignition is still in the engine and everything needed to run the bike should still be attached to the wire harness. All it would be is a little black box and the start light switch. If you don't know what your doing, why didn't you let me put the thing together like I offered to do for you. You said you've worked on bikes before and there really isn't that much difference. I could have had it put together and running in 2 hours or so, piece of cake. Now all your going to do is bug everyone about something your not working on yet or not even sure where to start? How about just putting the 185s engine into the frame and putting that all together since you have over 90% of the parts for that bike. All you should need is front rims and front tire , handle bars, rear fender and seat. Then once you have the 185 running then work on the 200x frame.
