sliding the forks up the triple clamps does a couple of things, one it will lower your trike, how far you want it lowered is up to you. second, it tightens the steering up a little bit making it twitchier. The only time I have ever found a need to lower the front end when not racing is when rear tire size is changed. Say you have the factory 22" rear tires on your X and the forks are setup in the clamps like they are supposed to be, now you get some 20" tires and mount them up. Ya gonna think a 2" drop in the rear won't make that much of difference but it does, the front end will always want to be in the air, it will push really bad due to all the weight being transfered to the rear tires caused by the drop in the rear end. Now if you lower the clamps on the forks 2" your ride will level back out and handle a lot better than it did before. Or if you dont want to lower the clamps on the forks you can find a 2" shorter front tire and have it mounted, the same effect as above will follow but you will retain full suspension travel.

I understand what you are saying, but a 22" tire to a 20" tire will only move the rear down 1"

Your correct. This will still be a noticable difference though.
