I was wondering what the best way to break in a new engine would be. I have read this http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm and it makes sense, or should I follow the user manual for the break in?![]()

2 or 4 stroke?
For my 2 stroke I ran 20:1 Honda GN 2 stoke oil for 3\4 tank of gas.
I started it, gave it 1/4 to 1/2 throttle blips, not keeping RPM's constant util it got to operating temp. Let it cool down all the way down by sitting for a few hours, re-torqued all nuts and bolts on head, cylinder and exhaust.
Second time I started it, was blipping throttle to 3/4 throttle until it warmed up all the way then took it for a ride blasting throttle again to 3/4 going through the gears.
I then ran the gas almost all the way out, drained remaining gas out, replaced plug and replaced with Amsoil Dominator 40:1 mix.
Did a plug chop to double check jetting and mix and has been running great since.
Did my top end rebuild about this time last year and rode it in snow, dirt and sand. Only thing I screwed up on was I replaced coolant with a 50\50 premix and was riding in snow and the top tank on one of my radiators was frozen and did not know it until I stopped for a break. Did not do any damage and did not overheat.
I ended up putting in a 60/40 mix and took care of problem and seems to run a lot cooler in 80 degree weather.
Just a reminder, no matter what you break in being a 2 or 4 stroke, make sure you have a good constant airflow such as a fan if you do breaking in with no load, sitting in garage, etc.

Simple... Ride it easy, mostly 1/4 throttle with some 1/2 throttle and vary the gears - let it cool and do it again.
Then little bursts of 3/4 throttle - let it cool and repeat.
Then bursts of WOT - let it cool do it again.
Log about 3 or 4 hours on it with that procedure and toss in a couple of oil and filter changes and RIP IT UP!!
2 or 4 stroke, same crap........
All our government does is distract us while they steal from us, misspend our tax $ and ruin our country
Wouldn't two strokes vary a lot more from 4 strokes?
I mean... What about touching the power band and all that crap?

Its a matter of letting the piston get mated to the cylinder, nothing more.

I'm sorry, but that article is a lot of B.S. Play it safe and go the tried and true way of breaking it in slow with the manufacturers recomendations. If you noticed at the bottom of the article it also stated that just about everything we do to our trikes is "bad", such as advanced timing, jetting!!!???, ported and polished!!!, flatslide carb!!!

Ya that artical is pretty comical. I wonder what company paid him to "say" that.
