12.5 briggs engine spraying gas from carb

I just rebuilt a 12.5 briggs engine and I whent to start it and it sprays fuel from the carb, yet the spark plug never gets flooded, I cleaned the carb becuase it was full of varnish, and it looked to be like brand new inside and out, but when I whent to start it at first it was dumping gas staright from the carb, then I hit the float boal with a wrench and it quit, but it sprays fuel out of the carb when I go to start it , and it doesnt start, I know both of the valves are clsoing fully, and I know I have the timeing spot on. what could be my problem?????

Sounds like the Float is sticking. Try a heavy cleaning with a whole can of parts cleaner.
