    Starter Engagement Delay

I've got a Honda with electric start. When I push the button, there's anywhere from a 2-8 second delay before the starter engages. Any idea what's up with that? Bad ground or maybe starter button connection? Once engaged, it spins it fine and she fires right up!

possibly a bad connection in either the key switch, the button itself, or like you said on the starter. Just go through and clean up the connections. Also could be a loose wire behind the headlight.

I don't have a manual - is there an electrical test for the solenoid?

My gut feeling is that you have dirt in the starter button, or a bad soleniod. you can test the solenoid buy hooking it directly to a good 12 volt battery.
