    trx 200sx runs, *problem solved*

after a year of hard work and dissapointment, the quad runs, i wish it was my trike that was runing but ill take anything good, with alot of help from stephen who cleaned the carb on the bike, and gave some starting advice i was able to get it running for a min by spraying gas in the plug hole, so i am assuming that the petcock is clogged. it was soo loud eevn with the muffler, it dosent have the original trx engine in it, i have no idea whats in it, maybe if i get the serial numbers someone could check that for me? but anyways im jus really happy, i was revving it up and the smile on my brothers face was priceless, it was his bike and he is too young to know how to work on it, and he gave up hope on it, but today changed that. i just needed to vent that i have wanted a quad/dirtbike/trike since i was 8 and now i finnaly have one that runs

i finally got to drive it, and boy did i, as soon as it fired i kicked it into gear and pinned the gas, wheelied right thro second, it was fun as hell, but as i was shifting into 4th the bike slowed dpwn ost power so i shifted down and as i went into first it just died and rolled to a stop, what could be wrong, is it bad jet settings, bad spark? im confused i could prolly fiqure it out eventually but im not home and i dont want to waste time on sunday trying to figure it out, anyone have suggestions?

man...theres a whole host of problems you could have

    does it have gas?
did you turn the gas on?
is there gas in the carb?
is there gas coming from the carb?

was this the first warm up after rebuilding it??
do you have enought oil in it?

    things you should do
    check gas
    check oil
    clean carb
    replace gasline/filter
    new plug
    new air filter

edit: and when you clean the carb remove all the jets and blow compressed air through them, and dont butcher them up taking them out! also check the float needle and seat it may have trash in there blocking the fuel, also will it restart after all this (like 5 mins after it shuts off)????

man...theres a whole host of problems you could have

    yes there is gas
    gas is on
yes there is gas in carb
no there isnt any gas leaking

it wasnt rebuilt, but the engine hadnt ran in a long time, as soon as it sdtarted i kicked it into gear, i left the choke up tho and forgot about opening it again, could that cause it?
do you have enought oil in it?oil might be bad, its very old, im going to change that soon in fact

    things you should do
    gas is good
    need new oil
    carb jus cleaned and rebuilt
thats a good idea ill get new gas and stuff soon
    plug is new
there is no air fliter right now, not even air box, i took it off for easy acess to carb

no i couldnt manage to restart it, batterty died, this bike kills baterys fast, i had to put it on the chgarger, alos the battery in it is form a bigred, the original battery is shot

yes thank goodness it did turn over, it jus dosent like to start again for a while after it runs. spark plug should be good, it def fires, but ill pick up anoither one anyway, oil is a must, and ill pick up gas as well, its a dumb question, but would higher octane help?

oil should be the first thing you change out, get some fresh stuff down in there. running with no airbox or airfilter, big nono. could of sucked anything into the carb and possibly the motor itself, throw that airfilter back on it and if you aint using a airbox, get an outerwears at least. reclean the carb since there was no airfilter. check your fuel line, change if neccessary. if you got spark you should be good there. as for the battery, do you have it grounded good and are you turning your key off if it has a keyed igniton. and why on earth would you fire a bike up thats been sitting for a while, and as soon as it starts kick it in gear and take off wheeling it? you should let the thing warm up a bit, get some oil sloshing around inside the crankcase and running thru the head first before you beat the thing. good luck getting it running. i love them little trx200sx's. i have always want to mod one up with an x motor and maybe do something to the suspension to make it more sporty. see your in wallkill, how far from albany?

haha I have a dang good idea as to what ail you/your 200sx. I had a problem, much like yours once, the gas tank was not venting and would vapor lock and starve the engine until death. Try running it without the gas cap parked and see if it helps.

i dont have an airfilter right now but i have an airbox, im using vaccume line for a gas hose, that probably dosent help, i have to change it alot. the battery is from my atc, its too big to let the seat fit on the trx, so the seat is bungiecorded on. i leave the key on when i try to start it, am i supposed to turn it of? i kicked it i9nto gear right away because i had it running before a couple days ago, but it died before i could ride it, so this time i wanted to hop on right away. um im not sure how far from albany, maybe an hour or two, i live in southern ulster county.

i bet you thats what it is, because my borther took the cap off to checkl gas level right before starting it, and it fired right up after it was put back on, i wonder if thats the problem on my bigred too........

probably for when the bike is in storage or sitting in a confined space so that gas fumes dont get into the air

For Transport and storage in smaller enclosed trailers and sheds. The explosive force of 1 gallon of gas vapor is equal to the explosive force of 16 full sticks of nitroglycerin TNT, or Dynamite(I can't remember which one). Also can be used for those that transport them standing up, so the gas does not spill out. There is also a chance that your gas cap vent is shot, which means it will not vent in the ON position and will need replaced before it is really safe to be ridden. Although I'm guilty of not replacing mine before riding it. For like 2 weeks I rode my trike with a piece of a garbage bag rubber banded with a small vent hole cut into it. Worked well just didn't keep the gas in the tank to well.
