Educate me here on wheel size & offset

When a wheel has (just an example) say a 3 + 5 off set which way is it offset, how do I measure ?

When the wheel size is 8X9 is 8 the diameter and 9 the width ?

I have a wheel chart here and it says a 84 R is 8X8 wheel size and 85/6 is 9X9 but does not list what stock offset is, so even though a 9x9 is one inch wider that doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to have a 2" wider (2 wheels X1=2") tracking because of how the wheels are offset, would that be correct?

Anyone know if most Honda wheels all have the same offset or it varies a lot between models?

I'm not looking for wider tracking and just using that as an example.

I know 200x were 8x8 and they were centered. you could always take a ruler to the wheels and measure it.

Most factory wheels are centered. The 3-5 offset means the rim will stick out 1" further than stock. The 3-5 # means that it is 3" from the inside lip to the rim center and 5" from the outside lip to center.

10x8 with a 3x5 offset.... 10 inch diameter rim, 8 inches wide, inside width(from hub to center of rim) 3" and outside of rim(from outer edge to center of rim) 5". sorry dont know hondas stock rim offsets.

Q: How do I tell the offset & size of my wheels?
A: To determine the diameter of the wheel measure the width of the bead (not the outer rim). From the weld, measure to the center of the tire bead on both sides. Add these numbers to find the total. The outer measurement will be the one with the valve stem.

Note: If the rim has a tire on it, usually the tire will have the rim diameter imprinted on it, (8", 9", 10"...) You can also measure the rim from inside using the diagram below and getting the measurements as close as possible.
