    Carb problem

Im still having problems with my 500 starting, generally i can only start it by dumping a little gas down the plug hole, if i dont all i will get every 5-6 kicks is a loud pop but will not fire. I usually can start it back up after it has been run in 2-4 kicks wich should be 1 or 2 imo, ive tried richening the air fuel as well as leaning it without any luck. The carb is the stock one that came with the bike in 85 i think, it is a 39mm anyways. Could this also be not enough spark? I kind of ruled that out since it runs perfect once started. My foot really will appreciate what any of you guys have for suggestions.

Its all a process of elimination, You need air, fuel spark and compression for it to start you need to figure out what one it is and correct it.

    Time to play detective..

When you give up kicking because it wont start pull the plug, whats it look like, wet, dry? Still has spark, replace that plug with another known to be good plug preferably from another running machine, maybe even take it out and warm up the plug before putting it into the CR500, did it start now?

Plug dry? Put some gas in the spark plug hole and the engine will start and run?

try 1or 2 sizes bigger on the pilot jet- first ---- it sounds like this is the problem because you need to put fuel down the plug hole-
check the fuel line, and tank for debries!! exess plastic in there from the factory or something -- i had that problem before
try a good spark plug- ngk- b8es- is what i use--- set the plug gap accordingly-
check the stater side magneto ect... for water or condensation- also check the seal
if you need to tip it sideways- your floats might need set-float height might be too high,or need a new needle and seat
--- when setting float height you need enough fuel so you dont run dry -wide open- ( this will act like a air leak, or the petcock turned off)
but you dont want to leave it so high that it runs out the overflow valve,or runs upthe main ,and floods the bike

choke it - make sure your choke is staying open as you kick it - mine sometimes shuts from the bike moving as i kick it !,and i have to open it again
2 kicks- fully choked--then start it with choke off

    EASY KICKIN-------------------
typical 500-- top dead center down 1 click with the kick starter- bring the kicker back up to the top- then fully kick it!!
