Alright guys, been doing a little pricing and research. A donor bike in decent shape (88-98, kx,cr, rm) is looking to be around the 1000-1500 dollar range. My biggest concern is managing and correcting the rake, and fabbing a subframe to really get the ergos and rider placement where it should be. I am also worried about getting the rear end set up the way it should be, using stock atv components.
The big costs are going to be plastics, aftermarket tank (not necessary), and tripples. I think the nickle and dime stuff will add up too, and thats what Im worried about. My goal is to make something that is OEM quality and appearance at around the 2000-2500 dollar range. We know custom trikes can be built, but the real objective is putting something together that the regular rider could afford to build. Keep the ideas coming!!!

good, keep at it ProCarbine2k1, as far as plastics, maybe you can find some off another machine that will fit or will almost fit with a few small mods. the first bike will probably be the ugliest, and a learner bike, then after that you should know what your doing. you will probably spend quite some money on nickel and dime stuff, need this for it to fit, that for it to work, this for it to run, that for it to look nice, etc. keep us updated and keep at it. just my $.02

For about 2500 Bucks you can Do this.....
That is what I was talking about above...To build the Xtreme Quad they just took the Dirtbike Frame and Adapted it..The quad STILL has the Neck of the Dirtbike on it....Just unbolt the front end and WHAMO..
If you bought the Quad (125cc) for 1800 and then the Trike KIT for about 600you would be in business...I know its not alot of CC's but these little guys haul ASS...I might be doing one of these soon..

the xtreme trike is cool, but most people would prefer to have a "name brand trike", something you hear everyday, honda, yamaha, kawasaki, etc. you dont hear xtreme everyday. also the "name brands" have more parts available both aftermarket and stock, more dealers, better service, and the parts are usually better quality most of the time. most people would prefer more then 125 cc's also.
does xtreme have the trike kit available yet?
mywifeknowseverything if you are going to do the xtreme conversion, go ahead, i think you should do it.

yes i know that xtreme is the most common "no name brand" so to say, and they have quite a few dealers around the country, but they are not as common as the "name brands" such as honda, kawi, yam, ktm, etc. not trying to be mean or anything, but not a lot of people know, or think of xtreme when your talking power sports. anyway, i believe you that they are strong machines, thanks for throwing it out here.

I wouldnt spend a dime on anything Xtreme touches, I dont want to offend anyone but I wouldnt. I also wasnt impressed by their representative on the boards. Ill try to stick to the game-plan though and hopefully get this conversion started sooner or later. Im going to try to have it on paper soon, and start fabbing the donor when the weather gets a little colder... What would you guys like to see in a conversion? CC, brand, suspension, etc., keep those ideas coming...

i would like to see something big like a 500r or a 600x or something big like that. but you better keep it small to see how it goes first, keep the cost down, and make the first bike the "experimental bike" the one that you just do to get an idea, a start, and get the hang of it. then move up to the bigger R's and X's.
how about starting small and basing it on the ATC 200X or 185S or something. as far as brand, do what ever you have the most experience with or with what would be the easiest. i personally would like to see a honda. if you can, make it fully suspended, and the engine a manual clutch with reverse if possible. basically try to make it a modern day 2007 ATC 200X. im glad that someone it attempting this.![]()
what about this for ideas? - see pic

Well, if I decide to jump into this project, Im not doing so half-heartedly. By all means this would not be a half arse conversion. If I have my say, I would really like to see a CR125 conversion, preferably a Honda. We'll just have to play it by ear...

i hear you, it would not be worth it just to spend the money and make plans and have 5 people do it, more people need to be interested in it. if the conversion is done, and if there is interested in it, it should not look like a 50cc dirt bike, 400 cc quad and welded steel put together that was found in a empty lot sitting for 5 years, that is a piece of junk. it should be something that looks nice, is worth riding and that you can be proud to ride.
a CR125 is a good idea, i would say do that. also keep it as much oem as possible, that way when something breaks, you can buy it at the dealer and not have to make another. it does not matter if some parts are mixed, honda frame, kawi engine, etc. but try to keep it as much of 1 make, oem, and not custom fabricated as possible.
if theres no interest, it was a good idea, maybe later on when the day comes that trikes are rarer, and are breaking down a lot.![]()
