using smaller or lager cc exhausts on?

can you use a different exhaust on somthing its not ment for? i am having trouble finding a decent stock system for a 200x , mainly the mufflers are just rusted all up. i am using a atc185 motor and thought maybe i could get away with somthing from a 150cc, 200cc or 250cc muffler? it could give me a better range of stock mufflers that are quiet.

i dont know much in the exhaust department..i prefere to leave the exhausts alone on my toys except for street bikes
