    Dealing with thieves.

Why do people have to be thieves? Is it they are just to lazy to get a job? Or are they too dumb to know right or wrong?

I was up at my cabin recently up in Northern MN and while I was coming back from the bar down the street and back to the cabin, I witnessed some punk POS breaking into my car. When I yelled at him he bolted off. Now I don't even feel comfortable leaving my trike out overnight.

    Stupid people!

What do you all do to protect your trikes when they are placed outside overnight? Chain to a pole? I was thinking about finding one of those alarms that when you move or pick up an ATV it sounds... They have them installed on these youth ATV's outside at this ATV place by my home.. I picked one up one day to feel how heavy they were and it immediately sounded and the owner came out. lol

Thieves just suck. And its like, even if I were to catch the guy, there is only one sheriff in town! lol

Unfortunately I don't own any guns and I don't know what kind of trouble I would get into if I were to shoot someone or beat the living shyt out of someone in my state...

At home there is no problem; its mainly when I have my trike out at friends places, cabins, ect. I need something "on the go" to secure my trike..

I actuallly carry my Tri-Moto in the back of my van with me. Saves space in the garage, and the back of my van is empty 99% of the time, anyways.

I do keep the van locked when on the street, the one thing that I do think is a theft deterrent for the average joe thief is a license plate on the back. The fact that there is actually a record of the trike's VIN in the system I would think would make a would-be thief think twice.

I don't worry about parking it when I go to a store. With the van locked, even if somebody did try to get it out (30 seconds if you know how, 5 mins if you dont), a telltale RINGtingtingtingtingtingtingwaaaaAAAAAAHHH in a parking lot in the burbs is bound to draw WAY too much attention

Well, you cant kill them unfortunately else the world would soon be free of them. Unfortuanately, my guess is that the courts see them as mentally incompetent or something. You can always get a replacement for your stuff they stole they say but you can't give back or replace his life. I would vote for a bear trap. Then you hang em up in a tree so high, they don't find him for DAYS! Can you detain him for police without getting in trouble for depriving someone of their freedom illegally? Seriously, why would anyone yell at the perp if they want to catch him? Sneak up on him next time if you want to get a chance to grab him THEN you yell when you are right behind him. Will be too busy changing drawers to be able to think how to excape. Problem is if he's got a gun and you don't find out until its too late. Or better yet, get a big dog. No body likes to be treated like some kind of bone.

So many idiots that can't ride a motorcycle, so few hours to put my boot in their seat!

Thats a good point about the license plate; it makes complete sense! However, sometime thieves are too stupid to know much besides their own sex, which, even then is debatable. lol

At Albertsons aka SuperValu, we can't even stop or detain shoplifters if we catch them in the act. We will lose our jobs. If we think they are shoplifting all we can is follow them around and be super nice to them.

I put a lock through the vents on my rear rotor, then I chain a couple bikes together. This way if someone wants to steal one, they have to carry three of them at once. This is all in my locked garage. Call me paranoid, Ill let you know how I feel when my bikes are still in my garage in the morning.

Yes, they could chop or cut the chain, but theres not many theives that are going to sit there and work on the bike for very long, they want to get in and out.

Ive also been interested in those alarms, let me know how it goes.

Some of you guys are setting yourselves up for a fall. Having guns isn't going to keep your trikes from getting stolen. Most of the time, people steal things when nobody is home. A dog? Dog's are easier to deal with than you think.

My brother had a near mint 1982 250R stolen out of a locked, attached garage in broad daylight. His guns didn't do him any good because nobody was home. The thieves beat the crap out of the large german shepard with either a big stick or a baseball bat. The neighbors are so damn worthless they TOLD the thieves nobody was home. My family is one of only two white families in that entire neighborhood. Middle of the day three black kids are banging on the door. Neighbor tells them nobody is home. You'd think that scenario would seem odd to the neighbor but apparently not.

So all the typical precautions, in a locked garage, big loud dog, gun owner and none of them made a damn bit of difference. The thieves were never caught. The trike never recovered. And you just know the morons didn't know to mix the gas so it was probably fried and dumped somewhere in a day.

If you really want to protect your trikes, lock them up. Good. Even inside a locked garage, chain them to each other or something else. Put a lock on the sprocket too. You can't make them impossible to steal but you can make them an unattractive target. Guaranteed if that 250R were locked up, they would have just stolen the TV or the stereo instead of wasting precious minutes trying to get the R unlocked. Like it or not, your trikes are the easiest target in your house if they aren't locked up. It's merchandise on wheels people.
