    Ebay Electric Starter Motor Question

I'm not sure if this is the right forum. I have a friend that needs an electric starter for his 85 250es. Has anyone ever bought one of the starters off ebay and if so, how did it work out. I mean are they an OK deal or are they junk? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Well if the price is right, I'd say get one off ebay, at worst it'd need brushes, right? They'e only about 20$ for a rebuild kit..........

Hi, Just be aware there are two versions of the starter. One has a longer shaft, the later one I believe. Easy to tell the difference, On the short shaft the splines go to the end of the shaft, long shaft has an extra 1/4" of smooth shaft on the end. Also, there are two and four brush versions of each but that won't matter unless you need to rebuild.

I had heard about the long and short shaft version, but that is the first time that someone explained it to me. Thanks for that info.
