    Speedo dead?....

did a 100mi. trip Saturday and 80mi. in the speedo head got noisy...buzzing like a gear went weird then it registered erratic but much faster than actual...Hmmm wonder if anyone knows if I can still salvage this speedo head?

get you a hot rod magazine theres companies that advertise that resotre vintage car speedos I bet for a small fee they can repair yours, I had custom gears made for my old 68 newyorker years ago, didnt cost me to much either.

Yep i know a guy that does it for our boat restorations. I have had speedo's and tachs done for vintage sleds as well. Top notch work. I am suprised others dont inquire about this.

    john...

I also see the two little vents and the bulb opening so guess I could spray silicone or white grease...afraid to mess up the dial face but if it doesn't work it's useless anyway...have a NOS one but hate to use it as they're so expensive.

before I mounted the cable I spray soaked it in 'SailKote' Krytox $40.00 a can...I'm sure it's the head unit but what bothering me is if all it needs is lube for the noise why would they both register eratic and faster than actual?

BTW: our Saturday trip was Ontonogon to Houghton & back...your a MI. boy ever do the U.P.?

well, not a real good fix. I sprayed white grease through the can vents and that solved the squeel and erratic speed readings, however a small but obvious area of grease overspray went through the odometer to blemish the dial face and glass...dammit...just what I was afraid of...and it's foamy & it's white!... might try to clear it by heating-up the glass....noticed the sun has already begun to reduced the microscopic bubbles a tiny bit.
