250r cable is too long! (solved)

I found a similar problem in the search option, but no resolution was ever posted. Anyways... '85 250R Frankentrike. I say Frankentrike because the bike came with '86 flat side carb and a twist throttle. I ditched the twist throttle in favor of the stock thumb throttle. So, I have an eBay stock throttle and new Honda throttle cable. The cable seems to be about 1/2"-1" too long. Can anyone look at my pics and tell me what I buggered up. I suspect I goofed on the top cap of the carb. I just put it back together how the twist throttle came out. The threaded portion of the cable up top and the nut on the underside of the top to secure it. The pic of the thumb throttle has the little brass ferrule that I removed when I ditched the twist throttle.

Same thing that happend to one of my old throttle. But I ditched that one and got a twist. But before i got the twist I cut the old cable a little shorter and soldered the little ball to the end. Im not sure if you could do that in your case but in mine it worked fine.

yea sometimes the cable for the twist is longe than a thumb throttle, you may need a shorter cable.

Couldnt you just make a small brass spacer and put it between the cable and cab and secure it with some glue or solder??? That would take up some space I would think?

That's kinda funny you mentioned solder in your last post. It kind of gave me a smart idea. I took the threaded brass end that screws in that was on the old twist throttle cable and got innovative. I screwed that piece into the carb top and solder the old brass nut on top of it. Then I just screwed my new throttle cable in and BOOM, instant spacer that still rigidly holds the end of the throttle cable.

I think some of my slop comes from the fact that the throttle needs an overhauld beyond the cleaning and greasing I gave it.
