    tri z coolant//rads

    well i flushed it out looked at the impeller and it looks fine...but my question is it???it turns fine but ive seen that a few of you have change them over too the aluminum ones...also the thermostat(is there one in there?can you bypass it?) i thiink has a wire off of it when it over heats the bike will shut down??

    thermostat is under the air box housing and the bike wont shut down but the red light in the headlight will shine letting you know its overheating.

    Ronnie (Yamahondaman) makes the aluminum coolers, as well as the pimp bi-pass thingie to replace the thermostat.

    A lot of people change to the aluminum ones because the stocker is known to fail. If you decide to stick with the stocker, I would get a nice little temp gauge that hooks up to the fluid line.

    Im going to hook up with something like this soon. Then you can know FOR SURE that your bike isnt overheating.

    What temperature does the redlight turn on at anyways?

    WELL ??? back in the 80's when the light would come on IT WAS HOT !! iv'e only seen it once.... prolly like a car dummy light .... ummm ... 200 deg. ? by then it's too late and some damage has been done....

    "The thermostatic valve should begin to open at 63-67c (145.4-152.6f)" says my service manual. I have seen the light come on and let me know before I did any real damage. The last time it was winter and I was ripping it across some corn fields when the red light came on. I slowed her up and could tell she was getting Tight. After a brief cool down she was back running. Since then the top end has broken in more and that hasn't happened again
