Had some down time here in PA to work on my tri-z motor stuff. The tranny that was originally in this motor sat in some water for a while. The crankcase looked like this remember?
So after getting it all apart and measuring and inspecting it. Everything looked reusable. I didn't really want to sandblast these parts, because as we know sand blasting is very abrasive. I have been tossing around the idea of using a vibratory tumbler and specific media to refinish these pieces. After searching hi and low on the net and talking with several different people I decided to give it a shot. I currently do my own powdercoat, my own anodize and why the hell not this. From what I read alot of guys cannot get the process/media selection nailed down and they abandon this method of refinishing.
The new tumbler. From Harbor Freight. Yes you may think hunk of crap junk tools. But I tell you what within the first week of owning this I have literally put 40 hrs of STRAIGHT run time on this unit. Some forums said that these overload and the motors burn up right away. Phew got me fooled. This thing runs great. No problems. You simply can't beat it for the price. $54.00 thats half the price of the closest competitor. And for $5.99 extra you can get a two year service plan. Thats right. And if you are unhappy with it 10 months down the road. Bring it back for FULL STORE CREDIT.

Really really pleased with how this works. I have ordered some ceramic media as well as some crushed corn cob to run these in. Should really make them look fantastic!

ive got that exact same tumbler with walnut shells...
never really give it a chance to work overnight, ill have to give it a shot at some point

Did I read somewhere that there is a coating on the shift forks? I have been holding off putting them in the tumbler because of this.

This build is impressive, nice job so far.. I wish I had the space time, and resources to do this with my 350X but, when it's done, it will be a very nice rider with a ton of power

Just scored a FULL 86 FRONT END!!!
With the help from mikeonsomeislandfulloftrikeparts and FactoryX from the westcoast! Thanks guys for making this happen.
Now I have a 85 fully rebuilt front end. All new bushings, seals, dust seals and progressive springs to just sit in the corner!
I'm going to redo the 86's with all OEM parts like the 85 front end I have. I will add progressive springs as well. I need to get a 250R front hub so that I can run a ten inch rim
So maybe I will play with the 85 and have an ice front end and a trail front end.
