    1986 tecate T3 Engine Numbers

Hey guys. I purchased a T3 off of someone on these boards (won't name names) and plan on restoring it. I took it to Silver Lake last week and had a good time, although I should have bought stock in NGK as the crank seals are going bad and the plugs didn't last long...

My question is, as I was getting it rideable for the dunes, I looked at the engine number and it is a KX....not a KXT.... I used to race one of these back in 1986 when they were new, but I do not remember the engine numbers. Although I know they were basically the same motor as the KX250, I still thought the serial number said KXT and these motors were exclusive to the T3.

Does anyone have what the numbers should be, or can you tell me if your serial number is KX or KXT?

I think I got a T3 with a KX engine in it which is very disappointing since I have everything gathered to restore it.

    Thanks for everyone's help!

I dont think its a KX engine... even though they are quite similar.
My engine number is KX250DE009637 and I am 99% sure its the original engine. Hope that helps. HH

My engine # also starts with kx and it's the original engine as far as I can tell.

I have 4 84-85 kxt bottom ends and 2 83-84 kx 250 bottom ends and they all start with kx250------------. Cases are identical between the two. Just a few internal changes with gears, clutch basket gear, cylinder, and crank gear. So you're ok. And hey shout when you're goin back up. We ride our t3's up there and had a great time 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for the help guys. I feel a lot better now.

I will let you know when I go back up to the Dunes. I was the only 2-Stroke 3-wheeler on the dunes last week (only saw 2 other 3-wheelers as a matter of fact). We had a great time. Looking forward to tearing into this thing some time...those darn 450R's have too much motor on the strip!

    Thanks again for everyone's help!
