Well I first started assembling this 270cc flat track motor back in November of last year. I ran into several problem after I first ran it. They are detailed in this thread: http://3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=60554 After repairing the sleeve chipping incident The project ultimately culminated in the fact that there was an area of the left center case previously repaired that had been warped, and the center case gasket kept getting sucked into teh crankcase allowing the trans fluid to be burnt. I've spent the last few months procrastinating, dealing with that and also having to put up with an improperly machined Hot rods crankshaft that left the main bearing journals .003 larger then the ID of the bearings. I ended up re-machining it to the proper tolerances myself. The crank was always such a *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* to get in and out of the bearings or out of the cases. I figured it out after I measured it and see how much they were out.
At trikefest, I also scored a very, very rare LRD adjustable ATC pipe to match the porting on this cylinder from Willie (86waterpumper) I had to trade a whole dirt bike for it, but I got itIts currently adjusted for low end with it as as long as it gets. You can adjust those bolts and make it shorter for more top end power. It fits kinda crappy, you have to take one of the side motor mount bolts out to keep it from rubbing and to even get it mounted on the exhaust flange. Everything else seemed to line up pretty nicely though.
I spent today dialing in the carb, which I think I have pretty close (I seem to be getting much better at carb work, I can get one pretty close in just a few hours now). It runs AWESOME. I went from a 152 main to a 185 and I'm right on the bleeding edge of being to lean, I'm going to watch it tomorrow and might bump it up to a 188 or 190 if it doesnt get any darker. The lowend snap this thing has now with the engine build and that pipe combination is like a 4 stroke. You can be idling in first and go to a 1/4 throttle and it snaps your neck. You open it up more then that and its just freakin nuts. Waaaaay faster then it was with the stock motor I had on it at TF. We have a race tomorrow, interested to see how it ends up doing.
