    85/86. 86 is better.

I would imagine any year KX motor could be made to fit with some different bottom/front motor mounts.

I know for a complete 01KX250 motor for like 150 that would be great to do a 310 kit with.

Have you ever seen the KX500 motor in the KX250 frame? I have. And if the kx500 fits in the 250 frame and the Tecate frame well then there's the possibility that many years of the kx250 motor fit,

well i have been tossing the idea of stuffing a 500 in but thats just to much motor for my taste i think. and i have been looking at the newer kx250 motors and they look as if the mounts havent really changed all that much to me. i know something like a 90 to 01 kx 500 drops right in besides notching the upper support. so i was figuring a 250 should be about the same right? just wondering, gotta figure out what i wanna do withthis t3.

the exhaust exits the cylinder at a different angle on the newer engines... but it could still be made to work...

I would think 99-02 KX250's would be most potent and also have a boat load of spares and aftermarket available for them. PLus a 310 would put out close if not more then stock 500 power.

I dont think the 500 is too much though. I've calculated gearing with 18's to get 108mph....lakes won't freeze fast enough for me this year.

Yeah and a good tuner can get you 70+ hp at the wheel with the KX5 dirtbike and it'll still be reliable.

That's why I personally would look for a 1996 or earlier.

Or up to whatever year the exhaust angle changes.

I know the KX500 fits the 99-02 frame very nicely and the 500 fits the Tecate so whats the difference?

Scott, have you looked into that $150 motor?

The angle is even changed different between the '86KX and The '88KX cylinders I have... its not a big deal, but expect to do some mods if you are using a tecate pipe on a newer engine...

I wouldn't use the Tecate pipe. Use the lowboy style KX250 pipe and you'll be fine.
