    atc 70 broken detent?

Pulled the plate that the points and lighting coil mounts to and found this broken piece. Must hold pressure on the shift drum? Couldn't think of any other place it would go. Anyone else know of another place it would go?
Never split cases on one of these, plobably have to to replace that right?

That is what it looks like to me. Has the motor been popping out of gear?

Sure looks like the piece that holds the drum in whatever gear your in. If the start wheel isn't on that side, yank off the other side...

The moter hasn't been popping out of gear but it could just be holding itself in. I will pull off the right side cover when I get back to working on it. Thanks for the responces you guys.

I think everyone is right, thats the end of the arm that puts pressure on the star shaped thing thats bolted to the shift drum, this same piece was broke on my 70 last year, must be a common thing, mine did jump out of gear somtimes. Fixable by just removing right side cover, and might have to pull off clutch and gear.
