1990 XR200 carb on 85 200X - HELL YEAH!!
So..... I got my buds 85 up and running with the HC piston, Webcam, HD springs and it's broken in.
It was breakin up bad in mid to top range but I wanted him to break it in before I dicked with it. For some reason, the new mods wanted a drop in the jetting. Might be that a worn and loose motor can tolerate a larger fuel amount due to the excess clearances.
So.... I'm disgusted that I can't get him a bigger carb and no one seems to have any info except that someone said "the early XR's have a 30mm carb".
He claims the mods are working GREAT and it has lots more power everywhere.
20 feet away from the 200X is a 1990 XR200 I just repaired and it looked the same. So, I yanked it off and it bolted directly to the 200X. I even used the XR200 intake manifold and it is a direct bolting and angular swap. I believe it is a 31MM carb and has a good size bigger slide too. All I had to do was heat the 200X airbox boot to stretch over the carb.
I drilled the main out a couple of drill sizes larger. Dropped the clip one notch, and it is running GREAT!! I have not jetted it perfectly but it is pretty dam close.
The point of my post is that it seems like a 1990 or other year XR intake and carb bolt on perfect and are a larger carb for the 200X. Any info helps out all the 200X die hards out there......
That intake boot is useless for the 86/87 motors but the carb is still an upgrade.
