WELD IT BUT DONT GET IT REALLY HOT OR YOU WILL MELT THE SEAL
Go to the store and buy alot of duck tape and wrap that trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro all over the place..lol!
j/k, i had mine welded with brass..so its easy to get off if you ever need to

dont weld it. put the shifter on in the right place and tighten it down. now drill a hole in the from the side, half on the shifter half on the shaft. tap the hole and insert a bolt.
it is more complicated then welding but it is removable and it wont mess up the seal due to the heat..

You have 2 options, Replace the shaft or a yyz has said weld it on, this needs to be done with a mig welder, make sure the lever is in the right place and clamp some vise-grips between the lever and engine as this takes away a lot of heat, if you get it too hot the seal will be damaged and it will leak oil, then you have to put in a new one and you might as well replace the shaft whilst you're in there! dowse the whole shaft with water after welding to cool it completly then your seal should survive!
I'm guessing you have a 110, as this is a very common fault

it might be stripped but maybe a little more pinch might get it tight enough to hold up to normal use.
to do that i have put lever in vise and using a hack saw cut a piece out of where the bolt draws the crack together ( to pinch or tighten)
i'm having a hard time describing this i know,,, lol
i cut the part the bolt first goes thru,,, not the threaded side.
what i am attenpting to say (rather stinking poorly) is if you can increase the gap in the middle of the shifter lever, iy will be able to draw down tighter (that's better).
you can also clean up the threads on both pieces with a triangle file b-4 tighting on to give it better grip. then if that don't work you ain't out nothing but time.

Mike, no thats my new 03 comet challenger. I bout the body from therral (i think thats how u spell it) racing. Its an awsum looking metalic blue. And since my dads buisness deals through k&n alot, i got them to hook me up with a little bit of sponcer money and free filters and stuff...and all they asked was i put those stickers on the karts somewhere...i actualy tink it looks pretty nice how i have it..for some reason when i resized that pic it made it look like crap. Ill get my dads digi camera out and shoot a few more pics of the karts i have.. do you race? what state you in?

I have 4 boys and they have all raced. My oldest has been doing it for about 8 years. Mostly dirt speedway but we run the sprint nationals if there close. We live in North Texas but have raced from Daytona to The IKF Nationals in Oregon 1996. My oldest son has moved on to other things and as of now no one is racing Karts from our house. Have you run at Daytona?
do what basket said. you dont have any welding to do, so you wont ruin the seals. also, it makes it stay for good, and you can remove it when you want to.
