spark problems on 82 yamaha 225 dx

hi...looking for help for a 82 yamaha 225 dx tri-moto....motor is fresh 2 summers ago...i just got this from a friend...it has no spark when trying to start w/the starter,but has spark when you pull the cord,but will not fire or run...i did the following already...replaced the cdi box,coil,and some other black box w/2 harnesses coming from it...i took these from a 83-84 yamaha 4 wheeler that runs...any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!.....thanx

not familiar with yamahas but have you tried the stator or magnito which ever one it has

First things first, if it is a 225DX it isnt a 1982 and vise versa. Dx didnt come out till '84

Compression, fuel, spark and air are what you need. If all those have checked out then timing is your most likely problem.

Spark issue could be a missing gear or something in the starter, where the starter turns but doesnt turn the engine over. That would explain why you have spark only when pull starting it.
