85-86 250R front end on TRI-Z...

I know I read something regarding this setup but trying to find it
has been difficult , so please bear with me.

Has someone put a complete 85-86 250R front end on a TRI-Z?
I'm talking about the triples, forks, hub, wheel, brakes.
Is it possible? If it is, What needs to be done?

I have a complete 85-86 250R front end and the "given to me for free" TRI-Z front
suspension (fork tubes) is rusted out. Plus I really want to upgrade.

I've been searching the forums for a few days and have not been able to find the info that I'm looking for. So I, once again turn to you guys.

Will any of you point me in the right direction?

hey torker .. not quite shure about the R tripples working in the Z frame..but you can get the same size forks and use the Z tripples.. and everything else would be honda,, tubes,duel piston caliper,hub,wheel.. this is the only way to go with a 10'' front rim on the Z..If you got that stuff try the tripples in the frame..and let us know

Torker, you need to use 86 TRI-Z triples with your 250R forks etc. You dont want to use the R triples even if you could, because the rake is radically different. 85 TRI-Z triples use smaller fork tubes, so they wouldnt work out unless you bored them to accept the larger forks.

you would have to go with the 200x or 350x smaller forks if it a 85..

I'll let you guys know. Boring the triples does not sound like a bad idea or difficult.
I'ts absolutely an alternative (if it has the material to be cut).

I don't think I wanna go back to the smaller dia. of the stock Z, 200X, 350X etc.
I would love to upgrade. Plus I have a lot of the parts here at home.
The Z is on my storage about 10 minutes from the house since I have two 250R's
beeing worked here and don't have the room. I wouldn't want to upset the lady that sleeps next to me. HA,HA... LOL

I'm not sure about that.... Those triples have to be held in a milling machine and indicated in perfect. Most triples don't even have 1 flat spot that is either parallel or perpendicular to the original hole.

The mill would have to be set up for the bottom clamp and then the top. If they move the head, you'll have to pay the time they spend indicating it back in.

If you find an old school machine shop or have a buddie that will help you, the actual boring isn't a big deal. It's all the setup that costs the time and money....

Yeah, I was wondering about that.
Fortunately I have a friend that has all the things, he may not be old school but will get the job done right. And hopefully it won't cost me an arm and leg.
I don't think it will be to hard fot him.

I took the 85 TRI-Z tripples to be bored, but it will be very, very close to the tripple bolts plus it was $75.00.
I'll just save the $75 bucks for the 86 tripples when I find them. Just to let you guys know (in case you wanted to do it).

PLEASE, still need the 86' TRI-Z tripples...

but 350x forks will fit? they comparable to a tri-z fork as far a performance goes? i wanna run a honda front end to get the smaler wheel and tire

Big difference in fork dia. as far as 85 Tri-z, 200x, air cooled R's and 350x.
That's why the 86 Z front end is so desirable, same dia. forks as the 85-86 R's.
I will install a 250R front end along with everything else: hub, wheel, rotor,
caliper and front fender as I'm missing the front caliper from the Z and I really like the smaller tire. Will probably go with smaller than 23" too.

That's why I still need the 86 TRI-Z tripples!!!!
