Honestly for someone start'n out I'd recommend a suzuki katana. VERY comfy, lower seat hei,ght SUPER cheap & they have the older GSX-R air cooled engines that are bullet proof. I bought an '03 600 for $2800, modded & rode it for awhile (I topped it out around 145 but that was 2 up wit my lil sis) then sold it & used my profit for my down payment on my currnet ZX6R which when your as small as me (135lbs.) those 636's SCREAM! Even though I bleed green, seriously that was the most user friendly & comfy bike I've ever ridden, just not fast enough for me. I've ridden anything out there.
    '06 ZX6R streetfighter-dyno'd 113 h.p. @ 16K & 59 ft. lbs. @ 10K <She hauls ass!

    '80's KLT 250 <Current project.

'69 Ford F-250-360 FE, Holley injection & street dominator intake, MSD 6AL, big cam, Headmans, 2-1/2" duals into Magnaflow with 3" exit. Tremec 717 aluminum 4 speed (& they said it couldn't be done.... HA!) Dana 60 3.73 posi <Daily ride.

Look'n for a KZ/GPZ 550/650/750 frame or bike with bad motor for my next experiment. Also looking for a desent Kawi dirt bike. PM ME!

There is no matching the massive torque generated by today's sport v-twin bikes. I have a Suzuki SV-1000N which was only made in 2003, but they still make the S version. If you want a plastic covered bike then consider the body kits which can be applied to make it look like a GSX-R. According to my dealer dyno my bike is putting out 118hp and 109lb-ft of torque. I easily hit 65mph in first gear right before redline. This motor has been made for years and it is time tested as it was made in the TL series of bikes as well and the little sister motor has been made in the 650 series for a long time. My cousin's old TL had well over 50k miles on it before it died (he turned it into a drag bike and ran it too high of RPMs for too long and it detonated). These bikes are built well for larger riders and they last a very long time and they have a comfortable riding position.
If money is an issue as you stated then you might want to avoid the Ducati and Triumph bikes as dealer maintenance costs tend to be higher than the japanese makers dealers. Sometimes as much as 2-3 times the expense! At least here in KC that is true.
Just something to consider while you make your decisions! Good Luck and ride on!

yeah i have to say my triumph i had the first service done at the dealer and it is a Triumph and Ducati dealer and i think they also sell Huskys and aprilia, well for one they make a shitload on the Duc's because parts cost a lot so my bike came last to them when it was getting done, they would rather spend the time on the duc and make a shitload. After it was all said and done oil filters and work was like 225. i should os just done it myself. But it is a nice bike and well not many have them so its cool. and the 3cyl motor is pretty unique.

Dang! That's an expensive trip to the dealer for scheduled maintenance! I take my bike in every 6k miles and it usually costs under a 100 bucks. The last time it was about $95 for the major maintenance. Of course installation of tires will eat you alive if you don't remove the wheels yourself and just take them the wheels. Of course I am due for a set inside of the next 500-1000 miles. If anyone needs a good website for great street bike tire deals let me know!

You should sell the bike now, if thats your mentality before you become another statistic and bring more embarrassment to the biking community.

Hey Oldskool83 how many miles do you have on your set of tires so far and what kind are they? I have a little over 10k miles on my Michelin Pilot Road tires on my bike and I still have a while to go before they are bald, let alone cords showing. I am always curious as to how many miles someone else is able to get out of a set of tires. I am putting a set of Dunlop D220 tires on when this set is done though. What kind of new tires are you going to go with? Here is that website I mentioned before with the good tire deals.

Ahh im not actually gonna ride until they blow i was being sarcastic, the tires im running now are pretty good tires they Are Pirelli supercorsa so far i have about 2000 miles on them and they are a good sticky tire, they are essentially a streetlegal track tire. on my Motard i run the Pilot Powers and they are awsome tires they have about 3000 miles on them and are still looking very good, but thats 2 diffrent beast also. And on the triumph i havent done much hard aggressive stuff.
