Never, and I mean NEVER allow your wife to drive your truck.

This is what was waiting for me when I returned home from a trip to Florida last week. She said she heard a scraping sound for a week before this happened. Every time she drives my truck something gets broke or falls off.

The pictures are bad. The whole hub assebmly including the rotor came off. The inner bearing is in peaices. I have not taken the hub apart yet, so I still not know fure what happened. I just put it up on a jack stand. When I get some enery I'll get that heavy ass tire and out of the back of the truck.

Now I have to fix her truck and mine before I leave. I might be getting a new truck when I return and leaving it stock.

OOOOOOOkay. This is what I have found. The inner bearing is gone and has worn itself into a groove on the rear of the spindle. The outer bearing looks unscathed. It still looks as new as when I installed it in December. The damage to the outer part of the spindle appears to have occurred when it hit the ground. The retaining nut assembly is good shape with no damage. That is intriguing, because they were not connected to anything. How in the hell would they back off? I have my doubts that happened, because nothing welded itself together. The remains of the inner bearing will not come off, but it does spin on the spindle. The only time I have seen hub nuts back off is when the friction of a failed hub forces it to do so. Usually the bearing and other components welded them selves together and that created the right amount of friction to break the lock washer. Mine is not broken. I am not sure what to think about this one.

I will not enter the Chevy, Ford, and Dodge debate. I have had experience with all of them and I have learned one thing. They all make great vehicles and they all make junk. What it all comes down to is how YOU take care of what you drive. I have seen work trucks get 300,000 miles and a new truck get less than 50,000. It all depends.
