83 200x problems (Howdy please help)

I bought a 83 200x and it has some issues. the carb that was on it was a mikuni (about twice the size as the stock kiehn) it also has a new DG pipe on it , the airbox has holes cut in it, a unifilter and it has a White Bros cam in it. The cam has WMXR2 ingraved on it. My problem is that I put a stock carb back on it with stock everything except i put a 110 main jet in it and it runs fine at idle and also up into part throttle range but wont top out. I have stock sprockets on it as well. The bike came from Cali and is really nice, but the set up on it is beyond me. It ran really fast at top end with the old set up on it but had no low end torque. I dont really need the speed as I have a 250r for that. I would appreciate some feedback on this matter. I dont have a clue why it wont run top end. It just wants to bog out. Kinda like there is no more throttle. Thanks, Tim

It sounds like ya may need to go up on the main jet. Is 110 the stock size on the '83 ? With the engine breathing so much better from the airbox and exahust mods it sounds like its not getting enuff gas on the top end which is mainly controlled by the main jet, thus i would guess the reason for the bigger carb. You say it idles fine and the botom end is fine but those are controlled more by the idle screw and neddle jet more than the main jet. I would get the next few sizes up on the main jet and see what happens, that seems like where your problems are.

With that cam, you need more gas in the hole. Biger main, maybe. there was a reason for the bigger carb. But you said twice the size???? What is the size of the bigger one you took off? :shock:
