    yamaha 225DX tranny question

Ok on my 85 DX no matter the situation the tranny likes to slip gears. I can get going be running full out and itll drop to 4th or sometimes ill be in mud or going upa hill and itll slip up and cause me to loose momentum. I dunno what it could be causing the problem but id like to fix it. My clutch seems to be adjusted properly when I give it gas after shifting it catches and keeps moving no problem even moving from a start is fine so I dunno what it is. Any ideas? Would water in the oil cause it? Just asking that cause I know the same oil in the engine is in the tranny cause its all combined but id figure if water was in the oil id have engine probs as well. It has me all confused right now I just fixed my front brakes and now this along with a broken left handle brake to the rear.

Are you saying that is slips when it is moving or a problem when you are shifting?

It slips when in motion sometimes itll wait for it to be able to clutch when I let of the throtle for a second or itll do it when im giving it full throtle going down the road or a trail.

That's exactly what mine does. Also, it's incredibly difficult to shift from first gear to second. It doesn't seem to be correctable with a clutch adjustment.

    Is it "slipping" or downshifting??

I have found 90% of all gear shift problems are NOT inside the center case. Many times it is merely the shifting mechanism, springs, dowel pins, studs or other related parts. You'll have to get a manual and look at it before you tear into it. Then remove the correct side case because some of these mechanisms are in the left case and some the right. Tear it off, and lift up the rear wheels and spin the tranny through the rear wheels while shifting to see whats up.

Hopefully it is an external case issue.....

People sell machines over simple overlooked problems like this. I buy em, tighten a bolt an triple my investment .
