    Operating Temperature

I was wondering. what would be an Ideal operating temperature for my 84 R?

where would be the start of overheating? i want it to be jetted correctly, and i dont want it too lean and burn it up.

i have a really good thermometer to check the temp, so that isnt an issue.

    No spec

But your plug check will let you know a very close estimate. If the plug is whitish or a very light tan its running lean=hot. This is air cooled. You cant just let these things idle at a stop like a four stroke. Keep the mud cleaned out of the fins.

When jetting do some plug chops. Your plug should look tan to brown.

im guessing 290 is getting a little hot, what are you mic'n? I mic the plug since it should be the hottest part - I will check mine next time I ride it and let you know what it reads.. it is fat so should be cool.
