ADMIRIN' BOOBS AND BLASTIN' NEWBS
First time i have ever seen that video. Looks like a big case of bad parenting, and a bunch of suits who have never rode a wheeler running their mouth about something they have no idea about.
My feedback thread:
http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthr...ght=jrwebb8324
Did anyone notice the numbers and how they conflict? First they say that during the atc's average life span of 7 years, that you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting serious injury or death.
So they sold 2.5million of them, that means that there was 833,333 serious injuries or death between 1979 and 1986. Is that true, or just a lie?
I've been riding for about 30 years, and yet to have a serious injury, I must be a trike god or something. Not saying there isn't a risk.
What about the comment by that stupid family-"we were told atv riding is 100% safe?!?!" What person in their right mind would think that ANY kind of off-road racing, or riding could be safe. Back in the 80's when I started riding (and way before that on dirt-bikes) no-one had to tell me that it was a risk to ride off-road. No-one had to tell me to be careful, and learn slowly. These people are all just stupid, and probably only a very very small percentage of injuries could be blamed on the design of the trike. A risk just like anything else in life, like crossing the street.
Truth is, more people get injured by dog bites every week than people on 3 wheelers in a year. Guns and alcohol are far more dangerous, and many other things as well, yet all those things are not banned.
The surveys were not unbiased, and included people who were not riding correctly. They even mention it a bit in the video. It amazes me what lawsuits and these screaming liberals do to take away our freedoms.
Was part two removed?

I watched it this morning, more than one person had it.
I would have never stopped to do the math (I hate math) but dam that made me laugh pretty good! So how many deaths/injuries is that per day? I have a number I calculated for 30 days but will wait to see how far off I am hahah. Also keep in mind currently (according to CPSC) 2521 reports of morbidy at the hands of a 3 wheeler.
the threewheeler was compared to the Pinto! come on show some respect.....give 'em the Corvair or something cool.
833,333 / (7*365)=326.15 deaths or serious injuries per day during those 7 years. Or 119,044 per year. According to a cpsc study done in 1985.
At around 3.25 into part one, he then claims that the 1985 cpsc study states that in 1985 there were 22,000 roll over incidents on 3 wheelers (not stating the injury, which I am sure most of them were not serious) So we go from 119,044 serious injury or death accidents per year, to 22,000 roll over incidents per year. Conflicting numbers.
The guy who's kid died says he rushed him to the hospital in his pick-up truck 10 minutes away. As we all know, what should you not do to a victim after a head or neck injury??? He may have well killed his own son by moving him.
Then the setup to demonstrate how an atc can roll over is curious also. I am wondering if the tires were properly inflated to 2 pounds, or were they over inflated. The reporter also reports that you have to "shift your weight to compensate" Well no f***in duh!
Ok so then they compare atc's to airline accidents. It's no secret that statistically speaking airline travel is the safest form of travel there is. Also why is he mentioning 1%?? Is that the true number of accidents on 3 wheelers??? 1% is such a big concern? Just about everything you do in life could yield a 1% chance of accident or death, including getting in and out of your own bath tub.
Then at 5:18 into part one, he says that 1in20 atv's were involved in an accident that year. Another conflicting number. If there was 2.5million atc's sold to that date, then that means 125,000 accidents that year.
18 seconds later they show a girl in the ER and say that she is one of 1600 riders injured each week. But I am sorry, 125,000/52 weeks =24,038 per week. More conflicting numbers.
Then there is all the data they used to determine if it was the machines fault, or the riders fault. The cpsc says it's the machine and the leader of the atv industry says it is mostly the rider. But when I read the actual accident reports, I see mostly rider error.
The only things I find true about this report are:
1. ATC's ATV's and dirt bikes are indeed difficult to ride.
2. Honda did falsely market the vehicles as being safe and not difficult to ride.
3. People do get hurt on them, but no where near the numbers claimed, and with proper training and riding equipment this number could be greatly reduced.
Stay tuned as I analyze part 2 later.
Ok part 2.
First thing I notice which is starting to annoy me is the confusion between atc, and atv.
I'll agree with the fact that kids should not be riding adult vehicles. But comparing the atv to the Ford Pinto is not a viable comparison at all. Ford Pintos are not recreation vehicles, most cars are used to get places, and are pretty much a necessity. Safety would be a bigger concern. again, I will revert to my comparison of 3 wheelers, and guns. Guns are still around, as are tanning beds which cause skin cancer. If the danger is known, then it's up to the user. If the stupid judges and lawyers of this nation stop handing out big settlements for known risks, maybe this country would be a better place. They make themselves out to be victims, but we are the victims, as our freedoms get stripped away from us.
The lady complains about her son getting a ruptured pancreas, but how many times have similar injuries happen on dirt bikes? Crotch rockets? They're all legal!
She's also a complete idiot for believing the sales person. Also a liar, as there is no way should could not have known about the danger, or at least heard it from one person. For the life of me, I just could not picture anyone that stupid, or so in the dark that they wouldn't know about the dangers of riding any off-road vehicle.
I will agree that dealers, or sales people should not be lying about statistics, or telling us it is perfectly safe just to make a sale. But this whole report was nothing more than a big sale for the reporters, and news program involved. How much money was made from commercials during that false report? These reporters are just as guilty as the sales people, and are hypocrites.
Now if the dealers were irresponsible enough, and the parents gullible enough to let there kids ride, when they shouldn't have, then that is just more proof that it is human error, and not machine error.
Kids sports. 3.5 million kids (14 and under) get injured each year playing sports (out of 30million kids playing). Now those are some staggering numbers. Clearly now, we need to ban sports.
In Ottawa alone, in 2002, 388 pedestrians were hit by cars, 7 died. We should ban walking.
Let's not even talk about smoking, or drinking and how much injury and death that has caused.
I'm sorry, but I find no good reason to ban 3 wheelers. It was all somebody's pet project. Probably one of those stuffy old farts in the video who hasn't had sex in a millennium and hates to see others having fun. Some retard sitting behind a desk did some sketchy research and came up with those numbers.
ATC training -good
Warning labels- good
Strict regulations on dealers -good
Public awareness -good
kid sized machines -good
ban-bad.....anti-American
Live Free, and ride things with 3 wheels!!
I just also want to clarify that these things I agree with in the video should be for ALL off-road vehicles, not just 3 wheelers.
Also, there is a ban on youth atv's due to the lead battery in them, but as much as I searched, I could not find one incident of a youth being poisoned by a lead motorcycle battery, unless that child was working in, or living next to a battery smelting/recycling plant in India or something. Plus how many of the youths that ride atv's actually work on them? Proably the chances of getting lead poisoning from a youth atv is 0.000000001% yet they banned them.
Why don't youth atv manufactures just use a gang of ni-cad, or ni-mh batteries instead? If lead was such a concern.
I cannot even put into words how much that video and the youth bike ban piss me off. In the video they show the slow motion video of the guy flipping the trike. I can make a friggin Corvette do the same thing if I plan the speed, the size of the bumps and the distance the bumps are apart. That was a rediculous demonstration meant to lead people that are too stupid to think for them selves into thinking that ATCs are killing people. And as for the youth bike ban...I always see little kids chewing on spark plugs, valve stems and battery terminals. MMMM....tasty!!
