Exclamation Need help tuning a Yamaha Timberwolf

In an older thread, I talked about a Yamaha Timberwolf I got for almost nothing, and it's having some issues that I think could at least be helped if I could fine tune it.

    Here's the list of problems:

    1) It smokes pretty bad, blue smoke. I assume the rings are bad so not much I can do for a quick fix there.

    2) It won't idle, if you don't have SOME sort of throttle on it, it will instantly die but will fire right back up. I took apart the stock Mikuni carb and let it soak in some Super Clean, but have NO idea what the stock settings are for any jets or anything else inside it. I just put it back together the way it was, and all jets were screwed in all the way as far as they would go until they bottomed out. I looked at a parts diagram and from what I saw, it was the pilot screw and pilot jet that were screwed in all the way. Not sure where these should be set.

    3) It is fouling plugs, some days it won't crank and I take the plug out and it will be black and wet. A quick cleaning with a wire brush and it will fire right up. I'm not sure if the majority of this is coming from the bad rings or incorrect carb settings.

If any of you are familiar with the Timberwolf or the stock Mikuni carb that comes on it, feel free to let me know what carb settings are wrong and need to be changed. I have no idea what any previous owners did inside the carb so I'll almost bet anything that something is set wrong in it. The only screw that is adjustable on the outside of the carb is a large screw on the side with a spring on it. Looking at a parts diagram it's listed as the "throttle screw set". All other adjustable settings on the carb besides the drain plug are on the inside of the carb.

    Thanks in advance,

Did you change the oil yet? When i first got my timberwolf for $150 it burned blue until i changed the oil and she hasn't burned blue since.

Also check your choke cable to see if it is stuck or frozen then check throttle cable if it has been adjusted.
