    got a yz80

I just picked up what seems to be a 1984 YZ80 for around $300.00..It seems to run good just wondering if anyone else has a old yz like this and if so what do you think about it and maybe what do you have done to it? I think I am too big for it but since I cant really afford a new bike till next year I wanted to know what people have done to make a 80 more adult-friendly?

    Man, I'm selling an 00 YZ80 for 300! LOL.

Adult-friendly, eh? Tighten up the shock and forks as much as you can (adjust the compression/rebound rates, if they had that technology back in 84). After that, not much you can do... if it was newer I'd say go put a Pro-Circuit or something on it, but the stock pipe has the mellowest and widest powerband for all-around riding, all a Pro-Circuit would do is narrow it and make it tiring to ride for long distances.

Put some nice bars on it (Pro-Tapers ) and make sure all the parts are in good condition. Those 80's haul the mail, they just don't go very fast on the top end.

My newer YZ80 was pretty much perfect for my 140 lbs. I bottomed the shock out on some bigger jumps with flat landings, but that's operator's fault. It wasn't quite as fast on the top end as I would have liked (maxed out at 55 or so), but it had a savage powerband and would lift the front tire in 3 gears...

I had a 84 yz 80 back in 88. I was admittedly a bit big for it as well, and had a 82 yz 100 at the same time. But the 80 was as close to new as you would ever find. And was priced so i could'nt pass it up. I rode it on and off for a year or so and had a blast on it. Never crashed it and was very careful not to tear it up. When i sold it, it was still stone stock and ran like a top.I got top dollar for it and my 100 and then bought a newer kx125 that actually fit me. Between 84 and 91, yz 80's changed very little. They were very quick and very durable. Many of my friends had new ones between those years. Just enjoy it for what it is, the last of the yellow yz's. I still own a 84 yz250.
