    Diesel + Tracks

Me and my brother have been workng on this since he is home for a vacation.

Basicly we took a '77 300D Mercedes sedan and gutted it for the motor, an inline 5 diesel automatic. Then removed the inline 6 gas stickshift. Some new motor mounts and a driveshaft and bam, running driving diesel J5 tractor.

Seems to have more grunt then the other gas J5 we have, exactly what we wanted.

Some nic-nacs left to tie up, a cage to build, gas tank to make, hydrualics to hook up and a blade/drag needs to be installed on the rear.

Will post vids of both J5's when I can.

It does go pretty much anywhere, very fun to drive in the trails. We have another with a cab on it that has been the workhorse for us the past year, that one has been places let me tell you.

Its the stock auto trans from the sedan. The car was in poor shape to begin with, the perfect donor I call it. The motor however runs perfect!

Also snagged the 300D, Diesel, and Mercedes emeblems from the car to put on the J5 body. haha

ah ok, I thought you added the 6 speed not removed it.

Were the early 300's turboed? If so a 5" stack really makes the turbo whistle noticeable . been there done that

Nah the six was refering to the inline six gas that once ran it, that was a 3 speed.

Differential ratio is approx 6:1, easily crawls at idle. I imagine the big hp V8 would tear the tracks to shreds. Sure would be fun for a little while.
