    Bogging!!!

Some of you have may of seen my old post and my 1983 atc 70...

Ok I got it running but it wont idle and theres a little black cap that goes on the choke lever But I lost it about 2 yrs back and now when I get it running it almost dies when I put it into 1st gear and boggs bad.

Ok so I have the idle screw turned in all the way and it wont idle and when I push in with my thumb where the cap used to be it idles and if I keep my thumb pushing in and unscrew the idle screw it lowers the idle and when I hold it in I can rev the engine kind of.

So does that sound like it sucking air into the carb and making it not idle and making it have no power???

when you plug the hole do you feel suction?? if so I would say the carb is pulling air so plug the hole and ride around a bit see if it continues to idle.

buy the black cap , is it for the Choke ?

Did you re-build the carb ?

Wash your tank out , put new fuel lines with filters !

In the first pictures the -

The black cap that you're referring to is strictly cosmetic. Most are missing on the 70 carbs because they're barely attached when new. Even if you find another cap, it won't seal a potential air leak. You can try spraying starting fluid where the cap used to be. If there is an air leak, you will know instantly when the engine revs. Spray in very short bursts. I'm not sure, but there may be an O-ring behind the choke mechanism that is leaking. You may have to dig deeper. Good luck.
